Gayle and Nic Monzu

Gayle has been a passionate gardener since childhood, and consequently has an extensive knowledge of garden plants. She trained as a botanist at the University of Western Australia, and while doing postgraduate research there was the Tutor in Botany for 5 years. After her marriage to Nic, and taking time off to raise their children, Gayle resumed teaching as an Associate Lecturer in Environmental Biology at Curtin University. Here her students have held her in high regard for twelve years.

Together with her husband Nic, Gayle has opened their Como cottage garden ‘Roseleigh’ many times, including twice for the Australian Open Garden Scheme. She has also designed and presented many workshops in their garden.

Gayle has also been popular as a garden educator and for many years has been a guest speaker at many Perth and country garden clubs. She has presented talks at Garden Week, National Conference for Heritage Roses in Australia and other special garden days.

Her passion for gardening and passing on her knowledge to others led her to create the now large and popular gardening club in Perth, the Cottage Gardeners Circle Inc.

From its birth in 1994 to early 1999 Gayle was the Founder President, and in that time both the Circle and herself were awarded a Certificate of Excellence from the Garden Clubs of Australia. It was also through the Circle that Gayle helped create some Western Australian country garden tours, and in 1998 designed and organised her first Garden Tour of New Zealand.

She designed, and together with her husband Nic, led successful garden tours to Victoria and Tasmania in 2001. Also in this year she established her business as Gayle Monzu Garden Tours. In 2002 Gayle created her new garden travel club, Gardening Friends Western Australia, and successfully repeated her Tasmanian garden tour. In the spring she also launched her popular country weekend tours away in Western Australia.

Gayle’s plant knowledge, thorough planning, friendly caring personality and unique tour booklet will surely make this year’s garden tours holidays that no keen gardener would want to miss!

Nic is a professional entomologist, and has always been very supportive of all Gayle’s ventures. Tour members appreciate his thoughfulness and concern for their welfare. He is an excellent problem solver, particularly with airport and camera difficulties!

Gayle and Nic make a great team, and on tour complement each other well. Gayle's plant knowledge, thorough planning and invaluable tour booklet, coupled with their caring friendly attitude will surely make this  holiday fun-and something no garden lover would  want to miss!
